Voice Submissions
We love to hear your stories! If your audio file is chosen to be used for an episode, all recordings remain anonymous. By submitting an audio file, you are giving your permission to use your voice as content for future episodes. If you would like to submit an audio file for the podcast, please send an email with an attached mp3 file to: inheadlights@gmail.com or fill out the submission form below.
We prefer that you submit an audio file rather than an email. We treat these audio submissions as a pre-interview, as it helps us understand the nature of the topic you’d like to speak to.
Tips for recording:
To ease our editing stress, we’ve provided some tips below that will help us make your voice sound as good as possible!
Find a quiet room with as little background noise as possible. Certain objects, such as curtains or a small space like a closet, can naturally soundproof. Trust us—we spend a lot of time inside of blanket forts and closets. For work, obviously.
Take a drink of water before you start recording! This loosens your vocal cords before recording. Plus, we can’t emphasize the importance of hydration in general.
Writing something out in preparation is fine, but we love when you speak naturally and unscripted. We recommend that you think of this as having a conversation with a good friend. We can be friends, right?
Don’t be nervous! We don’t really care how many times you say “um” or “like”—fart, if you want to. We’ll really do our best to edit those out. Most people hate the way they sound when recorded, but here’s a fun fact for you: when you hear your voice on a recording, you're only hearing sounds transmitted via air conduction. So, when you speak, the bones in your head and other tissues enhance lower-frequency vibrations. This means that your voice usually sounds fuller and deeper to you than it really is. The body is so weird!
